James is the son of Joyce and Shawn LaBounty.

As chapter president of the Future Business Leaders of America program at North Fork High School, James demonstrated strong leadership capabilities. In addition to his stellar academic and extracurricular achievements, his FBLA advisor has characterized him as thoughtful, reliable, and kind. He has also demonstrated an ability to interact consciously with adults and students alike.

James was a member of the National Honor Society for all three years at North Fork High School. He was active in the student council and was elected president of the Outdoor Club during his first year of membership. James served as vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America program during his junior year and president during his senior year, during which time he donated over 200 hours of service to the chapter.

Throughout his high school career, James earned letters in five separate varsity sports: basketball, football, track, soccer, and cross country. He was also awarded First Team Academic All-State four times.

With a lifelong passion for engineering, James will attend the Colorado School of Mines to pursue a degree in engineering. Besides being known as an exemplary institution, the School of Mines offers courses specifically dedicated to civil engineering, a career path James is most excited to pursue, considering several of his extended family members are in the field.
