Wood Splitting Contest

Wood Splitting Contest

Do you have axe-swinging skills? Show them off at the annual Cherry Days Wood Splitting Contest, sponsored by Redemption Mill and Earth Friendly Supply. The timed event will be held at Paonia Town Park at the east end of the gazebo stage. This event is always a crowd-pleaser and lots of fun. Local emcees will be officiating the event.

The contest is open to 21 competitors. Contestants will draw numbers that correspond to numbered pine logs donated by Redemption Mill. Once all numbers have been drawn, contestants will retrieve their logs. Time starts when the contestant crosses the starting line. The contestants will then carry their log back to the chopping block, split it into four pieces, and, finally, stack the pieces on the wood pile.

Entry fee is $10 per person. First and second-place winners will be awarded splitting axes donated by Earth Friendly Supply. Contestants can enter the contest at the Cherry Days booth in the park, located near the playground.
